# Pie chart

Useful for quickly comparing measures across the dimensions you set. The pie chart is drawn in the order you set the dimensions. Works well for comparing values over a cumulative period.

## How to use <a href="#guide" id="guide"></a>

Once you've set the data source, dimensions and data filters on the Data tab, click **Pie** in the type grid on the **Chart** tab of the settings panel on the right.

1. Click the **Chart** tab in the settings panel on the right, then click **Pie** in the type grid.

2. Select a measure.

* You can only choose measures you've set in the data source on the **Data** tab. To add a measure, add the measure you want to visualize to the data source and try again.
* Ratio measures (e.g. conversion rate) can't accurately show contribution as a share (%). We recommend amount or count measures.
* Handy when...👍\
  You want to calculate cumulative statistics across several dimensions and see rankings in the order of the dimensions you set.\
  e.g. Comparing revenue by brand / sales channel, revenue by brand / sales channel / product, or CTR by ad channel / campaign / creative.

3. Select the **% share basis**.

* **By chart settings**: The total value changes with the chart's legend settings, and % is calculated from the legend items you select.
* **By data settings**: Shows the grand total regardless of the chart's legend settings. Unchecking a legend item adds it to others and shows the combined value.

4. Choose the **Visualization** options.

* **Donut chart**: Turn the switch ON to turn the pie chart into a donut chart with the total value shown in the center.
* **Show as percentage**: Turn the switch ON to show the measure as %.

5. Choose the legend position under **Legend**.

* **Auto**: Places it to the right of the circle when there's room, or below when narrow.
* **Right** / **Bottom**: Always places it there. If the card is very narrow, a right legend also moves below.
* **Hidden**: Draws only the circle without a legend. Large slices show their share, and values appear when you hover over a slice.
