# Connecting Facebook

## Facebook connection guide

1. Click **Data Connect** in the left rail, then enter Facebook in **Search connectors** in the navigation panel, or click **Facebook Connect** in the **Ad channels** category.

2. Click **Data Connect** at the right of the **Facebook Connect** screen header to open the connection window, then click **Connect Facebook Account** under **Connection Info**.

3. Sign in with the Facebook account where your ad data is registered.

4. Read the access permissions Laplace requests and choose whether to agree.

If you don't agree to the access permissions, Laplace can't sync your data. Be sure to agree to them.

5. On the **Choose the businesses you want Laplace to access** screen, pick the **businesses** Laplace can access and click **Continue**.

   * **Opt in to all current and future businesses**: Allows access to all the businesses you have now and any you create later.
   * **Opt in to current businesses only**: Allows access only to the businesses you check in the list. If you run businesses for several brands, use this option and check only the ones you need.

6. On the **Review Laplace's access request** screen, check the requested permissions and the number of selected businesses, then click **Save**.

**Does clicking Save collect every ad account in the business?**

No. **Save** grants Laplace the permissions shown on screen (managing ads in ad accounts, managing the business, etc.); it doesn't start collection by itself. You check the ad accounts to collect on the next screen, and unchecked ad accounts aren't collected.

7. When you return to Laplace, the **Data source** tab of the **Facebook Connect** window shows the list of ad accounts the connected Facebook account can access. Check only the ad accounts to collect and click **Data Connect**.

The list may also include ad accounts outside the businesses you chose in step 5 (personal ad accounts, other brands' ad accounts you were granted access to directly, etc.). Only checked ad accounts are collected, so pick only the ones you want to connect.

* Connected accounts appear in the connection table on the connector screen. From ⋯ (**More actions**) at the right of a row, you can **Refresh** and **Renew Authentication**.
* Because we import data from the very beginning of the account's history, **it can take more than an hour if there's a lot of data**.

**Why does the data sync take so long?**

👉 Laplace doesn't just import your Facebook data; it also cleans the imported data and draws the charts. The more data there is, the longer it can take.

💬 You can track progress in **Jobs & data status** at the right of the top bar, and we'll also email you when the sync is complete. Collection continues even if you close Laplace, so feel free to close it.

## FAQ

If your **password has changed**, data can't be imported.

* If you change the password of the connected account, data can't be imported from that point on. You need to apply the new Facebook password to keep using it.

👉 In this case, reconnect Facebook via **Renew Authentication** in the row's ⋯ (**More actions**) in the connection table.

**The ad account status shows Unavailable.**

The connected Facebook account can no longer see that ad account. This happens when the ad account permission was revoked or deleted, or when you renewed authentication with a different Facebook account that doesn't have permission for that ad account. In this state, new data can't be imported, but data already imported stays as is.

👉 In Meta Business Manager, add permission for that ad account to the connected Facebook account, then click **Renew Authentication** in the row's ⋯ (**More actions**) in the connection table.

**Can I renew authentication with someone else's Facebook account?**

Yes. The account shown on the connection is the Facebook login used for authentication. As long as that login has permission for the ad accounts to collect, you can renew with anyone's account. However, collection stops if that account loses permission or is deleted, so avoid using the account of someone who's about to leave the company.
