## GA4 connection guide

1. Click **Data Connect** in the left rail, then type GA4 in **Search connectors** in the navigation panel, or click **Connect GA4** in the **Connect Event Data** category.

2. Click **Data Connect** on the right side of the **Connect GA4** screen header to open the connection window. **How to connect** at the top of the window shows your current step. Under **Sign in with Google**, click **Connect GA4 with Google**.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you haven't connected an account yet, the connector screen shows **What you can analyze once connected**. Click **View sample** to preview, with sample data, the screens available after connecting. Also check **How to connect** and **Before you start** at the bottom of the screen for the connection steps and what to prepare.

Google sign-in opens in a new window. If the window doesn't open, turn off your browser's pop-up blocker.
{% endhint %}

3. Sign in with the Google account that has your GA4 data.

4. **Select all consent checkboxes (two or more checkboxes may appear).** Review Laplace's terms and click **Continue**.

5. Once the account is linked, select the properties of the GA4 account you want to connect by checking their boxes in **Choose properties to import**.

6. After selecting the data sources to connect, click **Connect** at the bottom.

{% hint style="info" %}

* GA4 API data source analysis uses the API provided by GA4 directly, so the job completes right after you connect.
* Laplace uses caching for GA4 API calls, which effectively helps you avoid GA4 API call limits.
  {% endhint %}

## Check connection status

After connecting, you can check the current status in the **Connected data** table on the **Connect GA4** screen.

The `Auth status` column shows one of two values.

* **Authenticated**: Google account authentication is active and data is being fetched normally.
* **Refresh failed**: authentication for that Google account has expired, or a Google-side error is preventing data from being fetched.

Click the expand arrow on the left of a row to see the GA4 accounts and properties connected to that account, along with each property's `Connection status` and `Last updated` time.

## Reconnecting with a different account

Even if you connect the same GA4 property with a different Google account than before, **the old account's connection isn't removed automatically.** Both accounts' connections then point at the same property, and if the old account's authentication has expired, the dashboard may fail to load GA4 metrics.

After connecting with the new account, delete the old account's connection.

1. Click **Data Connect** in the left rail, then go to **Connect Event Data** › **Connect GA4** in the navigation panel.
2. In the **Connected data** table, select the checkbox of the row whose `Auth status` is **Refresh failed**.
3. Click the **Delete data** button that appears above the table.
4. In the **Delete this connection?** confirmation window, click **Delete**.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Deleted connections and the data sources in them can't be restored. Before deleting, first check that **the connection you're keeping has an auth status of Authenticated**.
{% endhint %}
