# Connect ad data

{% hint style="info" %}
You can connect data from channels other than the store connectors Laplace provides. Before connecting, download the data from the channel's admin, then follow this guide.
{% endhint %}

## How to connect a spreadsheet

1. Click **Data Connect** on the left rail, then click **Ad data** in the **Connect with Spreadsheet** category of the navigation panel. The **Connect ad data from Google Sheets** screen opens.

   ![Ad data in the Connect with Spreadsheet category of the navigation panel](https://616205588-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fqr1veGyUqCNwQBBmk3yt%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-0a0e042af6c09c4be2f222127dbf0b26942bec42%2Fstartguide__connect__spreadsheet__ads__01.png?alt=media)

{% hint style="info" %}
If you haven't connected a sheet yet, the connector screen shows **What you can analyze once connected**. Click **View sample** to preview, with sample data, the screens you'll see after connecting. Also check **How to connect** (**Create a sheet** → **Fill in data** → **Pick tabs and match columns** → **Automatic collection**) and **Before you start** at the bottom of the screen for the connection steps and what to prepare.
{% endhint %}

2. Click **Data Connect** on the right of the header to open the connection window, then click the **Create spreadsheet** button in **Connection Info**.

3. Click the **Copy link** or **Shortcuts** button to the right of **Spreadsheet URL**.

   ![Copy link and Shortcuts buttons for the created spreadsheet URL](https://616205588-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fqr1veGyUqCNwQBBmk3yt%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-fc156cbeb5587658fcec0ca789a039fe7e98d6fb%2Fstartguide__connect__spreadsheet__ads__03.png?alt=media)

   1. **Copy link**: Copies the link to the created spreadsheet.
   2. **Shortcuts**: Opens the created spreadsheet in a new window.
4. Once there, choose an input method from the tabs at the bottom.

   ![](https://616205588-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fqr1veGyUqCNwQBBmk3yt%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-429d9da535975abc867d42aeae35e1f9fa8900d8%2F7f7237065cc6.png?alt=media)

* **Method 1**: Enter the raw data as is: Upload the file you downloaded from the channel as is.
* **Method 2**: Edit to fit the template: Adjust the file you downloaded from the channel to Laplace's format, then upload it.

{% hint style="info" %}
Adding sheets: Click the **+** button at the bottom of the spreadsheet to add more sheets. Then return to the Laplace connection window and click the refresh button on the tab list (**Refresh list**) to see the new sheet. Renaming sheets: Click a sheet to rename it. Click **Refresh list** again to reflect the new name.
{% endhint %}

5. Click the **Next** button to check the sheets to connect.

   ![The Next button after checking the spreadsheet URL](https://616205588-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fqr1veGyUqCNwQBBmk3yt%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-aa39e8b728399543d179977bccf3df7cb2c7fd0c%2Fstartguide__connect__spreadsheet__ads__04.png?alt=media)
6. Click the **Matching** button to the right of the sheet that contains your data.

   ![The Matching button in the tab list](https://616205588-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fqr1veGyUqCNwQBBmk3yt%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-d89295a32fea1b8c34d912bea561b46fcbc67603%2Fstartguide__connect__spreadsheet__ads__05.png?alt=media)
7. For each **Laplace column**, select the matching **Data source column**.

   <figure><img src="https://616205588-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fqr1veGyUqCNwQBBmk3yt%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-3cdf1d3512bbd70e628714d692c49ef6a0691e2c%2Fstartguide__connect__spreadsheet__ads__06.png?alt=media" alt="Column matching screen" width="645"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Refreshing data:** If the data you uploaded to the spreadsheet changes, click the **Reload data** button to refresh it and apply the changes.

{% hint style="info" %}
After you edit the spreadsheet, it can take up to about 2 minutes for the change to show in Laplace, because the spreadsheet reports changes once a minute. So after clicking **Reload data**, you may need to click it again once the 1:00 timer ends for the changes to be applied correctly. After refreshing, check that your changes came through correctly, then save!
{% endhint %}

* **Load column map:** If you've done the same column mapping before, you can load it. For data from the same channel, or with the same column names, you can map everything at once with Load column map.
* **Column matching:** Select the column that corresponds to each column defined by Laplace. For values that aren't in the sheet, such as the ad channel, you can enter a fixed value with **(Enter directly)**.
  1. **Required columns:** Ad date/time, Ad account name, Campaign name, Ad group name, Ad creative name, Ad channel, Ad spend
  2. **Optional columns**: Ad account ID, Campaign ID, Ad group ID, Ad creative ID, Impressions, Clicks, Conversion Count, Conversion Revenue

{% hint style="info" %}
For accurate analysis and access to more charts, we recommend matching as many of the available columns as possible.
{% endhint %}

* Table loaded from the spreadsheet: Review the data imported from the spreadsheet to check that the matching is correct and that refreshed data was applied.

8. Click the **Save** button, set a column map name in the **Save column map** window, then click **Save**. Once you save a column map, you can load the matched column map the next time you do the same work.

   ![Save column map window](https://616205588-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fqr1veGyUqCNwQBBmk3yt%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-89999219dd55b9d735b8b75d9b4d116333a9d719%2Fstartguide__connect__spreadsheet__ads__07.png?alt=media)
9. Select the sheets you finished matching, then click the **Connect** button to connect the data.

   ![Connect after selecting the matched tabs](https://616205588-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fqr1veGyUqCNwQBBmk3yt%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-a6d92d031504880f2ff94eb058418dd6716bd429%2Fstartguide__connect__spreadsheet__ads__08.png?alt=media)

* Connected sheets appear in the table on the **Connect ad data from Google Sheets** screen. Use ⋯ (**More actions**) on the right of a sheet row to **Refresh**, open **Column map settings**, **Stop sync**, or **Delete**.
* Laplace imports all data since the store opened, so **with a large amount of data it can take more than 30 minutes**. You can track progress in **Jobs & data status** on the right of the top bar.
